The HID Amico 3.5″ (VL35LF) is the compact model of the HID Amico range: a facial recognition door reader with a 3.5″ capacitive touchscreen, sized for office entrances, schools and mid-sized buildings where a slim wall unit is enough and no intercom is needed.
Two 1080p cameras (visible and near-infrared light) feed Paravision’s AI algorithm, ranked in NIST’s global top 10. A face is matched within 0.2 seconds at up to 3 m, with a throughput of about 30 people per minute in 1:N mode, including in complete darkness (0 lux).
Key Features:
- Five authentication methods — face, HF/LF card, HID Mobile Access with Google and Apple Wallet, static or dynamic (TOTP) QR code, and PIN on the touchscreen. Methods can be combined for multi-factor access to server rooms, labs or other sensitive areas.
- Compact footprint — 86 × 142 × 26 mm and 345 g, mounted at 1.40 m. A multicolour LED bar, buzzer and on-screen messages give clear feedback at the door.
- Low power draw — 400 mA at 12 V idle, 600 mA maximum. Powered by 12 V DC or 802.3af PoE over a single Ethernet cable.
- Scalable face capacity — 10,000 enrolled faces as standard, extendable to 50,000 or 100,000 with a pre-installed or in-field licence.
- Privacy by design — optional Template on Card stores the biometric template on the user’s Seos credential instead of a central database. Presentation attack detection rejects photos and screen replays.
- Straightforward integration — OSDP v2.2 over RS-485 and Wiegand in/out through the supplied External Access Module (EAM), plus an API for software integration and RTSP video streaming.
- Built for entrances — IP65-rated terminal, operating from -20 °C to 50 °C.
HID Amico 3.5″ vs HID Amico 7″:
- No intercom on the 3.5″ — the built-in SIP intercom is only available on the HID Amico 7″ (VL70LF).
- Smaller and lighter: 86 × 142 × 26 mm / 345 g, against 119.4 × 247 × 34.6 mm / 950 g for the 7″.
- Lower consumption: 400 mA idle / 600 mA max at 12 V, against 600 mA / 1 A for the 7″.
- Default face capacity of 10,000 (7″: 50,000), with a 50,000 tier that only exists for the 3.5″.
- Door relay, door sensor and exit button are handled by the EAM; the 7″ adds a relay and 3 GPIO on the terminal itself.
Choose the HID Amico 3.5″ when you need fast, contactless facial recognition at a standard door and visitors are handled elsewhere. If the reader also has to receive visitor calls, go for the HID Amico 7″ with SIP intercom.
